CHERYL
EDWARDS

Co-founder and Head Coach

Cheryl’s footballing career has gone from strength to strength over the years, starting her interest in the sport from a young age, going on to play professionally for Birmingham City Women and now boasting a UEFA B Coaching Licence after developing her coaching career in the UK and the States.

Having grown up locally, Cheryl played for Rugby Town Ladies FC for five seasons after being promoted to the first time at just 15 years old! During her time with Rugby Town, Cheryl was the top goal scorer for two seasons before being selected to join the Birmingham City Ladies Centre Of Excellence U17. After developing as a player with Birmingham City, Cheryl moved to Coventry City to gain more first team experience in the Women’s Premier League before returning to the Birmingham City Ladies Development squad in 2014 and achieving the 3rd top goal scorer of the league that season.

This impressive performance got Cheryl called up to the first team at Birmingham City, making her debut against Notts County Ladies in the Women’s Super League, gaining a new contract for the 2015/16 season.

At the same time as developing her career as a player in the game, Cheryl continued to progress her coaching experience having volunteered at Rugby Town Girls, Birmingham Metropolitan College, Birmingham City Women RTC and Solihull College before advancing to paid roles at Birmingham City Women RTC, RB Coaching and Aston Villa.

Following the 2016 season as a player with Birmingham City Ladies, Cheryl took up the opportunity to pursue her coaching career in the States where she earned the title of Girls Director of Coaching, managing 300 girls and 10 coaches.

Keen to keep her foot in the game as it were, Cheryl worked her way up the ranks in coaching all while playing for the Boston Breakers Development team and winning back to back league titles in 2016/17 and 2017/18.

Having returned from the States in 2020, Cheryl is now coaching the Birmingham City Women RTC U9/U10 girls, and has launched her brand new venture Goal Power Coaching, aiming to help develop ambitious young footballers across the Midlands and further afield.
